Pineapple – Golden Book Ends

I’ve seen a variety of pineapple book end options in my favorite stores, but none caught my eye like these solid-metal golden beauties from Target. They’ve literally pulled my bookshelf together and bring me joy every time I look at them. They’re so beautiful, in fact, that placing any old books between them won’t do. Only pretty paper things about colorful birds are allowed.

In front we have “Natural Histories”, a pack of 60 postcards adorned with rare book illustrations from the American Museum of Natural History (purchased from Barnes and Noble). Behind that is “100 Birds and How They Got Their Names” by Diana Wells, which I was lucky enough to pick up at a garage sale last summer. In the book’s introduction, Wells summed up the need for this info-packed little pocket volume nicely:

To know the names of birds is to understand something about human passions — the scientific urge to explain, the poetic desire to describe, the ambitious claim to possess, and the spiritual need to be close to heaven.
